About the artist

Ido Masao 井堂雅夫 was born in 1945 in Beipiao, town in Northeastern China. After his family returned to their hometown of Kyoto in 1960, he began his artistic career under Yoshida Koho, working with dyes, before shifting to woodblock prints in 1972. Under the tutelage of Ohtsubo Shigechika, Ido honed his distinct style. His work focuses on capturing traditional scenes in a state of tranquillity that modern cities and culture does not easily allow. He has exhibited worldwide and his work can be found in numerous collections worldwide, including the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
