Born in Tokyo in 1930, Miyashita Tokio 宮下 登喜雄is considered a master of Japanese post-war art. While originally studied literature, he devoted his career to printmaking. The student of Japanese block print masters Sekino Junichiro and Unichi Hiratsuka, Miyashita Tokio explored many techniques, but favored the woodblock. His works can be found in prestigious collections such as that of the British Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.
