Ronin Gallery is exceptionally pleased to present a collection of Ushio Shinohara's (1932-) famed Boxing Paintings. The 1960's and 1970's marked New York City as the international hub of avant-garde art. It was during this time that Ushio Shinohara, the enfant terrible of the Japanese art scene moved to New York where he gained instant notoriety for his boxing paintings. Attaching sponges to his boxing gloves, he would saturate the gloves with paint and punch his way across a long canvas. His work has been featured in exhibitions worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, and the Japan Society New York to name just a few.
