Araki, Shinko (1960 - Present)
Born in Yokohama, Japan in 1960, Shinko Araki is known for her organic artwork forms and geometric abstractions. Araki’s direct application of natural matter to her artwork began in Maui, where she would trim leaves and vines from the Eucalyptus trees surrounding her house to incorporate them within her designs. Creating collage-like compositions through aquatint etching, Araki utilizes copper plates and deeply pigmented colors, layering etchings of plants, vines and flowers into earth-toned geometry.
