Miyamoto, Shufu (1950 - Present)
Known for his dreamlike landscapes, Shufu Miyamoto is a leading contemporary woodblock printmaker. Born in Fukuoka prefecture, he originally studied oil painting with Osamu Ioka. Miyamoto began his exploration of printmaking through lithography and silkscreen, yet found his medium as a woodblock print artist. He uses gentle hues and extensive bokashi, a technique of color gradation, to achieve romantic atmospheres. Miyamoto’s works can be found in collections around the world, such as the Museum of Fine Arts Boston and the Auckland Museum in New Zealand.
