Hoshi, Joichi (1913 - 1979 )
Joichi Hoshi was a Japanese printmaker best known for his woodblock print abstractions depicting the galaxy and engravings of trees embellished with silver or gold leaf. He was born in 1913 in Niigata, Japan, and graduated from Musashino University of Fine Arts in 1956. He died on June 17, 1979 in Tokyo, Japan. Joichi Hoshi's art can be found in the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art in Tokyo, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Cincinnati Art Museum, among others.
