About the artist

Shuntei Miyagawa was a Meiji-period woodblock print artist best known for his designs of beauties and children. Born in Aichi prefecture, Shuntei lived most of his life in Tokyo. He signed his work Shuntei Gyoshi or Shuntei Kanjin, which literally means “man of leisure.” Shuntei studied painting with Shoka Watanabe and Eisen Tomioka. He was a prolific designer for book and newspaper illustrations as well as woodblock prints.
