About the artist
A talented Kano painter and illustrator, Morikuni was also an author of several published books. Born in Osaka, he began his art education under Tanzan Tsuruzawa in the Kano school. Morikuni copied many of the sample works of the Kano school in print, collecting them in a book. This publication enraged the Kano family, requiring Tanzan to disown his bright pupil.
