About the artist

Willy Seiler was a German printmaker known for his hand-colored etchings of life in rural Japan. Born in Dresden, Seiler set off from Germany in 1928 to travel the world. Following World War II, he settled in Karuizawa, Japan. There he produced etchings and paintings of Japanese life. Willy Seiler found an eager audience for his work in American occupation force and served as an art instructor at the American Army College in Tokyo.
