Kunisada/Toyokuni III

Kunisada/Toyokuni III View Works

Ronin Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of Kunisada (aka Toyokuni III). Considered a star attraction of the Utagawa school, Kunisada was a prolific artist. Due to strong familial connections with the literary and dramatic circles of Edo, Kunisada grew up around the Kabuki theater. This intimate familiarity with the life of the theater is apparent in his yakusha-e, or actor prints. Capturing the tangible drama of Kabuki and the inherent vitality of its actors, this collection reveals Kunisada’s mastery of the genre.
