Toshikata: Daily Practice of the Tea Ceremony
Ronin Gallery presents 14 prints from Daily Practice of the Tea Ceremony (1896), a masterful series by Mizuno Toshikata, published by Akiyama Buemon. A jewel of Meiji-period woodblock printing, the series offers an imagined journey through a day-long tea gathering in an upper-class home—each standalone scene capturing the shifting seasons and timeless rituals and fleeting beauty of chanoyu. Toshikata (1866–1908), a student and chosen successor of Yoshitoshi, blended classical ukiyo-e with Western influences to create works of remarkable refinement and expression.
