In Japanese myth, dragonflies are the only creatures able to ascend from earth to heaven, and can travel effortlessly between the two realms. In this print, Shoson seems to emphasize this capability of the jewel-like insects, placing them at the very tip of hollyhock stalks that stretch endlessly into the blue morning sky.
