About the artist

Chōkōsai Eishō (鳥高斎 栄昌, fl. 1790s) also known as Shōeidō (昌栄堂), was a ukiyo-e artist and the most prominent student of Eishi. Eishō produced at least twenty print series with the majority of his work appearing between c. 1792 and c. 1799. With such a high volume of pieces, Eishōwas thought to be in competition with Utamaro. He specialized in courtesans and the depiction of the Yoshiwara, and also produced a few shunga books.
