About the artist

A painter and printmaker, Nisaburo Ito studied painting under Bakusen Tsuchida at Kyoto City Specialist School of Painting (now the Kyoto University of the Arts). As a printmaker, he produced several designs with the publisher Uchida. He completed meisho-e (famous place pictures), particularly of famous sites in Kyoto, and kacho-e (bird-and-flower pictures). Ito's many designs range from minimalist color and composition to strongly traditional imagery inspired by Chinese and Japanese imagery.
