About the artist

Yoshikage Goto (or Yoshikage II) was a Meiji-period printmaker. Born in Osaka, Yoshikage II was the student Yoshitaki. He produced some senso-e, or "war prints," depicting the Sino-Japanese War (1894-1895), as well as kaika-e, or “enlightenment pictures.” Like many woodblock print designers of his time, Yoshikage II also worked as a newspaper and magazine illustrator.
