About the artist

Sadafusa Utagawa was a woodblock artist active during the mid 19th century. He initially lived in Edo, where he became a pupil of Kunisada, who left a lasting influence on Sadafusa's prints. Sadafusa then moved to Osaka. He worked predominantly within the genre of bijin-ga (pictures of beautiful women,) though he also produced excellent studies from Kabuki theater.
