Kogyo & Noh Theater

Kogyo is primarily known for his images of the Japanese Noh theatre, a traditional aristocratic form of Japanese performing arts that is considered more refined than the popular Kabuki theatre. Unlike many ukiyo-e prints, Kogyo's works have an almost painterly quality and feature generous use of gold and silver for the Noh costume embellishments.
