Hideo Takeda: World Night Sports
Ronin Gallery is pleased to present Hideo Takeda: World Night Sports. Join the fictitious Takeda Trouble Travel Co. for an after-hours exploration of the sporting world. From classic competitions, like discus and javelin throw, to the contemporary favorites, like surfing and skateboarding, Takeda’s original hand-colored illustrations portray each sport with biting humor, clever satire, and a touch (or a healthy dose) of the surreal.
As one of Japan’s most important creative minds, Hideo Takeda’s (b. 1948) work speaks to a global audience. Over his long career, Takeda has inhabited multiple identities and worked with innumerable media. Along with countless exhibitions worldwide, his work was featured in a one-man show at the British Museum, entitled Takeda Hideo and the Japanese Cartoon Tradition. Takeda’s work is firmly rooted in the creative potential inherent in crossing boundaries and the freedom that comes with the refusal to be categorized.
