Water and Sky: Early 20th-century Watercolors
Ronin Gallery is pleased to present Water and Sky: Early 20th-century Watercolors. In this collection, each artist creates a tangible atmosphere. Imbued with a sense of stillness, these paintings capture the Japanese landscape awash in the pale pinks, pastel blues, and soft yellows. Watercolor gained momentum in Japan at the turn of the 20th century as an expressive, colloquial alternative to oil painting. While popular among Yoga, or "Western-style painting" artists, watercolor also attracted artists working in Nihonga, or "Japanese-style painting." In each work in this collection, the artist has signed their name with roman letters.
