From elegant irises to lush peonies, Sugiura’s flowers bloom from their gold-leaf background in saturated colors. A graduate of Kyoto College of Fine Arts, Sugiura spent four years studying classical Japanese painting and the art of gold leaf restoration at Kyoto National Museum of Antiquities. His prints blend this background, layering his floral studies upon a layer of gold leaf. Many prints in this exhibition are priced under $500.
