Modern Expressions: Creative Prints from 1960s through 1980s
From unexpected compositions to fresh printing techniques, the exhibition Modern Expressions explores the innovation that coursed through the creative prints of the 1960s through 1980s. Working in the spirit of the Sosaku Hanga or “creative print” movement, the artists in this collection followed a central tenant: the artist must participate in every aspect of production. As they designed, carved, and printed their own works, they discovered new materials, methods, and ways of seeing. Ronin Gallery is pleased to present a selection of these creative prints by Shiko Munakata, Yoshitoshi Mori, Kiyoshi Saito, Jun'ichiro Sekino, Tadashi Nakayama, Hiroyuki Tajima, and many more.
