Dawn to Dusk: Shiro Kasamatsu
Ronin Gallery is pleased to present Dawn to Dusk, an online exhibition of woodblock prints by Shiro Kasamatsu (1898–1991), a leading artist associated with both the Shin Hanga and Sosaku Hanga movements. Best known for his evocative landscapes, Kasamatsu began his career as a painter, studying under Kaburagi Kiyokata and exhibiting in the Bunten, Teiten, and other official exhibitions. In the 1950s, he began working with the Kyoto publisher Unsodo, creating woodblock prints celebrated for their rich atmosphere, poetic nuance, and luminous interplay of light and shadow. From misty dawns to deepening dusks, these works reveal a timeless beauty that has made Kasamatsu’s prints prized by collectors worldwide. Later in his career, he embraced the independent spirit of Sosaku Hanga, carving and printing his own designs by hand.
