About the artist

Born in Aichi prefecture in 1935, Tadashi Ikai is a self-taught artist that gained international prominence in the early 2000's. While today he is known for his delicate mezzotints featuring birds, he began his artistic career as a sculptor. In the 1970s he began his lifelong exploration of printmaking with copper etching. He actively exhibited his work in Japan and beyond. He participated in the College Women's Association of Japan (CWAJ) annual print show every year from 1986 until 2000. After 2000, he exhibited his work from Chicago to Paris.
