Hiroshi Tomihari was born in Ibaraki prefecture and started his career as a woodblock printer in 1959, following his graduation from Ibaraki University. He has since been sent to the U.S. by the Japanese government as an official delegate artist, an honor that enabled his success both at home and abroad.
