Ui, Machiko (1940 - Present)
Rendered in fresh colors and rich textures, Machiko Ui presents lush abstract floral paintings on shikishi board. Ui received her BA in 1957 from Kinjo University in Nagoya. Three years later, she graduated from Musashino Art University. She has held solo exhibitions worldwide and participated in group exhibits such as Basel Art Fair in Switzerland and Shunyokai Exhibitions in Tokyo. Ui has received numerous awards both in Japan and abroad. In addition, she has published two books of her original work, one in 2010 with Aleksey Bogolyubov, curator of Japanese art at the State Hermitage in St. Petersburg, and the other in 2012.
