Tsukimaro lived in Edo and was one of Utamaro's brightest pupils. He used a variety of go, signing his earliest prints Kikumaro and adopting the name Tsukimaro in 1804. As a print designer, he focused on bijin, or beautiful women, and illustrated books. In 1818, Tsukimaro ended his print career and focused solely on painting.
