Okuyama, Gijin (1934-Present) View Works

Born in Tokyo, Gijin Okuyama’s prints focus on daily activities of the everyman, or take the form of intensely detailed landscapes. Son of printmaker Gihachiro Okuyama, Gijin learned to carve from his father. He soon began to print as a student of Sakakura Seijiro at Nihon Hanga Kenkyusho, a publishing firm founded in 1946 by Gihachiro. After the company closed, a new studio opened in Matsudo, where Gijin served as both printer and studio manager by 1973.
