Howard, Daryl (1949 - Present)
Daryl Howard is a contemporary American printmaker. After receiving her BFA from Sam Houston State University, Howard lived and taught art at a school in Tokyo during the 1970s. During this time she was introduced to a private collection of 18th and 19th century ukiyo-e prints. She felt an immediate connection to the prints and embarked on an apprenticeship with master printmaker Hodaka Yoshida. After Howard left Japan, she began her MFA at University of Texas-Austin. Daryl Howard's woodblock prints can be found in over 75 private and public collections. This spring, the exhibition The Floating World of Daryl Howard: Woodblock Prints by a Texas Master will pair Howard's original work with her personal collection of Japanese woodblock prints. This exhibition will be on view at the Museum of the Southwest in Midland, Texas from April 27th through July 2nd.
