Ashiyuki (fl. 1813-1833) View Works

Ashiyuki 芦幸 (active first half of 19th Century) worked in Osaka and was a pupil of Asayama Ashikuni. The subject of his work was the Kabuki theatre whose famous actors and scenes he vividly illustrated in his woodblock prints. His work was technically highly innovative as he was one of the first to use colour blocks without outlines and to work in horizontal format. His work is in the permanent collections of major museums worldwide such as the British Museum and the V&A in London.
