About the artist
Bunro was an ukiyo-e artist active in Edo during the first decade of the 19th century. He is thought to have studied with both Buncho and Utamaro, but little information is known about this artist. The influence of Utamaro can be seen in Bunro's okubi-e, or big-head portraits. While today Bunro's designs are rare, his work can be found in the British Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
