About the artist
Fujo Ueda was a 20th-century woodblock print artist associated with the Sosaku Hanga (“creative print”) movement. Little is known about this artist. Born in Kobe in 1899, he studied under the print artist and nihonga painter Tsunetomi Kitano (1880-1947) as well as luminaries of the Sosaku Hanga movement Koshiro Onchi (1891-1955) and Shiko Munakata (1903-1975). Ueda was a member of the Japan Artists League and exhibited his prints with Banga-in, Nihon Hanga Kyokai, and in international exhibitions.
