About the artist

A Japanese painter and print designer, Harada is best known for his vivid woodblock and lithograph depictions of the Russo-Japanese War (1904–1905). A dedicated student of Ogata Gekkō (1859–1920), he exhibited historical paintings at major Tokyo venues, including the Third Japan Youth Painting Promotion Society Exhibition of 1895—an organization co-founded by Gekkō himself. Harada’s prints stand as striking visual records of modern Japan’s emergence on the world stage.
