About the artist

Kunihiro Amano was a woodblock print artist active during the second half of the 20th century. Born in Hirosaki in Aomori Prefecture, Amano relocated to Tokyo when he was young. While largely a self-taught artist, he attended classes at Musashino University for three years following World War II. He first exhibited with the Japanese Print Association in 1955 before setting off on an international career. Amano worked with oil-based inks and developed a distinctive color palette. Today, Amano's artwork can be found in collections such as the British Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
