About the artist
Kunimitsu Utagawa was an early 19th-century ukiyo-e artist and a pupil of Toyokuni I. Known for his actor portraits and bijin-ga (images of beautiful women), his style reflects the influence of Ikeda Eisen and Kunisada Utagawa. Working under the name Kunimitsu Utagawa, he contributed to the rich tradition of Edo-period woodblock printmaking.
