Kawase Hasui: Quiet Elegance Ronin Gallery

Kawase Hasui: Quiet Elegance

Hasui (1883-1957) is regarded as a major landscape artist of the 20th century. Known for his poetic renderings of snow, rain and moonlight, he portrayed the quiet elegance of early 20th century Japan with a nostalgic yearning for the past. Characterized by their serenity of mood and flawless composition, Hasui's woodblock prints welcome the viewer into a more "idyllic" time. Most of the Japanese landscape prints in this exhibition were collected by military officers post WWII through the end of the Korean War.
